Tomatoes in December

Im Dezember 2007 bereiste ich die Region Andalusien im Süden Spaniens, um dort die „Plastik-Stadt“ El Ejido zu fotografieren. El Ejido ist Europas größter agrarindustriell genutzter Wintergarten. Dort werden zahlreiche Gemüsesorten angebaut und größtenteils nach Deutschland und andere europäische Länder exportiert. Die zum Anbau genutzten Treibhäuser bedecken eine große Fläche an Land. Insgesamt sind rund 36.000 Hektar mit Plastik überzogen. Dies ist die weltweit größte Anbaufläche unter Folie.

In December 2007 I travelled through the region of Andalusia in the South of Spain to photograph the “plastic city” El Ejido. It is the biggest conservatory of the rural economy. Many kinds of vegetables grow there to be mostly exported to Germany and other european countries. The greenhouses, which are used for the cultivation, cover a big floorspace. It is the world‘s biggest cultivable land, which is covered with a plastic sheet. It has a size of roughly 36.000 hectare.
